Last night was one of those times when a nanny like Julie Andrews would have come in handy. While I was out scoping tonight’s shoot location I was stung by Sir Granddaddy of all hornets. I am still in pain, and I usually don’t have a problem with stinging bugs. I USUALLY prefer bees and hornets to black flies. Not this one. Phew it was a stinker and boy does it smart. So today’s ponderings are about happy thoughts and things that make us feel good like pink balloons and pretty girls dancing on a summer’s day.
Last night’s incident reminds me of a video blog I saw recently by Fine Art Photographer Goddess, Brooke Shaden, in which she stresses the importance of at the very least letting someone know where you are going to be shooting. Even better, don’t head out alone into a remote location. You never know what may happen, and it is always better to have someone else around in case something unforeseen occurs. Last night I just happened to have someone with me, and I would have survived the incident even if I had not, but you never know it could have been worse.
My dang arm still hurts, but I will power through. Some exciting stuff on tap for tonight and hornet spray in hand I am back out to face the location that tried to best me last night. In the line up; a helpless maiden, rail road track, isolated location, about 7 feet of rope and some smoke bombs if I can find them (my props have become hopeless scattered around the house and garage). If you can’t tell from my work history, I love reworking iconic old images from our culture. Tonight will be a fun one! Hopefully there are no trains running, and if they are may their front engine be covered in hornet gutts rather than camera parts! 😉
